Visiting Umbria

Arte moderna in una cittadina medievale: Città della Pieve

To visit Umbria, an area of infinite colours and flavours, is to immerse yourself in the green surroundings of one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Italy thanks to its rich traditions, culture and natural beauty.

There are many charming towns and cities of art which are easily accessible from the agriturismo farmhouse: Corciano, Perugia, Assisi, Castiglione del Lago, Deruta, Gubbio, Spello, Città della Pieve, Spoleto, Montefalco, Orvieto, Panicale are just some of the towns you can visit in the region of Umbria.

Umbria has been described by many famous people who came here to find peace and nature.

In the early 19th century Lord Byron wrote:
"I prefer the road from Perugia to that of Siena: This way you have the chance to visit Arezzo, where it seems that nothing has changed since the century of Dante, and the surroundings of Lake Trasimeno are beautiful".

Those surrounding mentioned by Byron are still striking. Leaving the agriturismo and walking along the hills south of the lake towards Città della Pieve, you will find the abandoned medieval village of Cibottola near Piegaro. Or you can visit Panicale which is another small medieval village which preserves its ancient charm to this day.

From Panicale you can take the road to Città della Pieve, where the famous painter Pietro Vannucci ( known as "il Perugino") was born. The city still has several of his works of art.

In August in Città della Pieve there is the Palio dei Terzieri festival in which 700 people parade through the streets in medieval costumes.
